How to use toolbar variables var1,...var10

We would like to use the Var and SVar variables and we believe we are using them the right way (same as user_id) but it is not working. So let me know where I am going wrong in using the SVar1 and Var1 variables.

When you set a variable you need to use this syntax:

tool.Var(1)="aaa";
